Winter Trout Fly Fishing.

Winter time brings on plenty of thoughts, vacations, dark afternoons, football on the television and for me some of the finest trout fly fishing there is.

But the truth of the matter is trout fly fishing can be fantastic, the crowds are down to non-existent, the view and wildlife are bounteous, and it makes those long days of early spring with non-stop rain and overflowing brooks more sufferable. The 1st thing is checking your local rules. It's also seldom pleasurable to fish in well below freezing temperatures. Some pursued it, so never touched a fly rod again. Several things stick out when I look back to those days. Their first fish all alone that is, one in which I hadn't hooked first and then let them to reel in. I tucked him under my non-fishing arm, and low and behold here came our Golden Retriever puppy not able to touch bottom and with a touch panicked look. The warm afternoons like I discussed above will produce Blue Wing Olive hatches in several locations, and midges hatch year round too. Good patterns include, imitations of food sources that are available year round like San Juan Worms, Chironomid Pupas, Disco Midge, and Wd-40's. Trout's metabolism makes them want to search out pools close to the bank that are heated by the sun, so they are more exposed. So severe setting of the hook isn't needed.
